Hello Ladies,

Well what a year it has been so far as we have explored options for our business premises- thank you for being so patient!! We can now happily say that we are operating from The Lyall Boutique Hotel in South Yarra (14 Murphy St). It is a gorgeous and inviting premise that allows our clients to view the dresses in a homely and convenient location. We are currently taking bookings once a month (on the second Saturday of the month). This may increase at certain times of the year so keep a look out for updates on this page and on our facebook account :-)

We are exhausted after moving out of our Prahran store. We will be temporarily based at A Lavish Affair's gorgeous showroom. We have been super busy that I haven't had a chance to blog about Rebecca's gorgeous big day. Rebecca looks absolutely stunning in her gown and I adore how much time and effort she put into choosing the right colour and style for her maids. Each bridesmaid is wearing a different dress made from Art Deco Mint silk dupion. Rebecca chose beautifully and wasn't afraid of dressing her maids in a style that complimented the girls gorgeous curves and personalities.

About a week ago I received the most gorgeous email from one of our clients which I would love to share with you. I know, from personal experience, how hectic married life can be and one of the last thing on my mind was to thank all of my suppliers -I think I thanked my wedding photographer, videographer and wedding dress designer, sorry to everyone else that I neglected :(

However, after receiving this lovely email I realised the importance of doing so. Wedding professionals pour their heart and soul into this industry and the will and determination is fuelled by a deep love for weddings and all of the happiness that it brings. So as you can imagine we are always appreciative when we receive a heartfelt thanks :)

We adore these photos and email sent in by Amanda, we hope you also fall in love with these as much as I did.

The girls opted for Lauren in Fudge silk satin and silk georgette. The colour and style works beautifully against the backdrop.

Oh hello people!

Now before I apologise for my long absence let me explain..there is a legitimate reason. I have been holidaying around Tasmania for just over 2 weeks with my hubby to celebrate my 30th birthday. Yay!! I am officially no longer considered youthful:(

Personal issues aside, I have received some beautiful pics of our 2011 photo shoot which I adore. I think you will find that pics are so helpful when trying to decide between full length/cocktail length and on colours.

When determining the length of the dresses consider the type of wedding, theme, venue eg. is it practical to opt for full length if you are planning a beach wedding? Take into account your maids physiques do they like to show off their legs or do they prefer the focus on their torso. Consider the style of your wedding is it relaxed or formal and when all else fails just go with what you like ;) I find that's the best piece of advice when you have exhausted every source of reasoning.

The great thing about weddings is each wedding is so individual that there really aren't any rules and although advice is definitely useful, it's important you focus on what you feel is a priority. If you are trying to make a full length gown look feminine opt for lighter colours, darker colours are great for a sophisticated look. The same rule applies to our cocktail lengths. Alexandra, for example, can be made to look very formal in a full length darker shade and is also suitable for a relaxed garden or beach wedding when made in a softer colour and in knee length.

If ever in doubt, get the girls to try on a range of different styles and different colours :)

I just love how beautiful the oyster Alexandra and Lauren dresses look next to the gorgeous bride's white dress. I am extremely biased when it comes to nude tones for dresses as that's what I opted for for my own wedding. You can create such a soft, feminine and slightly vintage look by just choosing a different colour for your bridesmaids or cocktail gowns. I love how versatile these dresses can be and it always amazes me how much colour plays a role in creating an overall look or feel.

Our latest photo shoot was all about movement and redefining how bridesmaid fashion is perceived. We are out on a mission to prove that bridesmaids can be fashionable! It's all about creating a classic silhouette with fun accents.

Oh it has been so so long!! I feel like I say that every time..I can not wait until we have Internet access at our Prahran store so I can blog until my heart's content :) There is so much to catch up on! Where to start?!

Let's start with what's happened since late 2010..

We are now retailing from our Prahran premises Shop 2, 19-23 Izett St. Look for the red dress in the window- signage has been ordered and will arrive very soon. We are open Friday 12-5pm, Saturday 10-5pm, Sunday 11-2pm and Monday 10-2pm. These hours may change as we are trying to work what times work best for our clients and adapt accordingly, so watch this space for updates :)

We have completed our 2011 photo shoot and the images are magnificent! Although I don't have the finished product to show you I am going to be very sneaky and attach some of the raw images..all free of Photoshop so you can see how fabulous , if I do say so myself ;) our dresses and Ava Madison model (Ms Andrea Carbone) look!

Although so much has happened, our website is lagging behind and we still need to update the collections and Real Weddings section, but it is coming I promise.

Just incase you are new to Ava Madison and how it all works I thought I might include some information below- dot points because we are all too busy to skim through and make sense of my rambles..

*All of these dresses that appear on our website are available to purchase whether they are showcased in the Collections page, Real Weddings or Blog section

*Most of our styles are available in both knee length and full length and are not limited to BRIDESMAIDS as they can be worn AGAIN- I know it's unheard of but these dresses are not TYPICAl..trust me! They would look gorgeous with funky or elegant accessories whether it be for a formal function, cocktail or the races.

* We cater to interstate brides and can take orders over the phone or via email

* More than happy to send out swatches

Ava Madison Prahran Store

Hello People!

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and New Year. 2011 is going to be an exciting year for Ava Madison as we open our first retail store in Melbourne.

Although, we are yet to open for trade our store is starting to take shape. Still so much to do and the final touches will make all the difference. Things like, pictures on walls, adding our new stock to the range and completing the change rooms and oh who could forget...our window signage! So yes, still a few things to do but we are so excited that, for the first time since Ava Madison hit the fashion scene, we will be open for trade 4 days a week (keep posted for opening hours) and no appointments required!

Brides and their maids will be able to walk in select their garments and if the size range etc is all available on the day then you can purchase your ideal dresses and embark on purchasing shoes for the girls from nearby Chapel St. This makes it so much easier for women who are in bridal parties but are also expecting a little one...they won't have to purchase their size until a week or two prior to the wedding. Dresses will be on offer in select colours with options to choose from our extended colour range for a small fee.

We will be opening Friday through to Monday which means working women have the choice of frequenting the store either Saturday or Sunday.

At this stage we are aiming for mid to late January. Watch this space for more updates!!!

Well it's not long now until we obtain the keys to our new premises. We can not wait to offer our clients a location that they can visit 4 days a week without having to make appointments , whereby they can purchase any of the dresses they fall in love with and take them home on the day. It means you can begin searching for shoes and the right accessories pronto!

The in-store collection will showcase each style in three colours with the option of 'special orders' for any additional colour options. Not wanting to leave you in suspense, I have included some snapshots of our newest looks.

It's so exciting to see so many different wedding venues, styling themes, colour choices and the endless possibilities available to a bride to be as she plans her big day.

Our latest Real Wedding comes from a gorgeous client who recently had the fortune of a destination wedding. Her bridesmaids wore Sophia in Sunkist (minus the frill detailing) and they looked amazing. The dresses worked so well with the stunning brides Jane Hill creation. Kate had a vision in mind of simple elegance and the colour choice is so complimentary to the setting, the bridesmaids and the overall styling.

Being an interstate bride we liaised with Kate via email and phone to obtain the girls' measurements and the details of the big day. We usually are lucky enough to see the bridesmaids' dresses on the girls before the big day (at the final pick up) but with interstate clients we wait with excitement to see the dresses come to life from the pictures our gorgeous clients send through- I must say we are never disappointed and are always inspired by the combinations our talented clients pull together.

I love cake!! Who doesn't? But for some reason I have thought that wedding cakes always look better than they taste, but that's definitely not the case in this instance.

Cake Face make the most scrumptious cakes and from high quality ingredients. I can not wait to sample each flavour...mmmh...better hit the gym before that session ;)

What I love about Cake Face is they are truly unique. Not the usual mass produced styles that can often lack personality. I love the flavour combinations, the website and the passion for cakes that comes through when you discuss cakes with them. They are truly amazing at what they do and their designs are breathtaking.

Despite being married, I am trying to think of another special occasion I could order a cake for and yes I love the wedding cakes the best!

Looking back at pictures of family weddings that I attended during my childhood years, I notice that so many things have changed. Not only has there been a shift in wedding dress trends, but there is also a huge change in the amount of wedding venues, type of photography available to brides and the invites that guests receive to announce the special day.

We have uploaded some of these pics before but I received a few more recently and wanted to share them with you.

As you can see, the gorgeous bride opted for three different styles in the same colour- in this case it was called Cameo. As I am sure you will agree it's definitely a gorgeous selection of contemporary styles that flattered the girls.

The dresses are also available in full length options and in various colours. Our colour range is quite extensive at the moment as when we opened for trade over a year ago, we wanted our clients to dictate what colours would be popular and we have seen some very strong colour trends. As a result we are beginning to narrow down the options for next year. Don't worry brides will still have lots of choice when it comes to colour and it will hopefully make the selection of colours for bridesmaid dresses a little easier :)

By appointment only- the showroom is set amongst a beautiful country landscape and the expertise offered by Imbue Weddings is second to none.

We are so excited about showcasing our products there and know that many of you have been waiting for our dresses to move further North! Thanks for being so patient.

Alexandra Dress in Butter. Always flattering to a feminine physique

I was watching Launch my Line last night on Foxtel and was horrified at some of the garments that appeared on the runway. Although, there were a few that were gorgeous, there really wasn't very much that would flatter a real woman. I say this after hearing the concerns of so many women have with the fashion that graces our stores and runways. Yes, on a teeny weeny physique they may look amazing but add a bust, full hips and some curves and the garments don't do anything at all to flatter. Why is this so? Is it really a power play between design and fit? We think the two work hand in hand and are complimentary in creating a gorgeous piece. If we are unhappy with how something fits and looks we won't manufacture it. Simple. It just astounds me how so many ill fitting garments are pushed onto consumers.

There have been many occasions were I have been grateful that I can get an Ava Madison design for a wedding or special function as I often feel that searching through items upon items at stores often leads to a sad day at the shops:(

As designers and retailers we prefer having clients try on dresses and feel so good in them that narrowing their decision down to one final garment is the biggest hurdle they have to overcome as opposed to introducing a product that doesn't ring true to our brand philosophy.

Mmmh, I hope things start to make a turn for the better in the future!

We have had such a great response from our Western Australia audience thanks to the lovely ladies at Bride and Groom Store. However, all good things must come to an end and as a result Ava Madison will no longer be available at Bride and Groom Store. The service and store is absolutely gorgeous however due to changes in business directions we have both sadly parted from this venture. This week has been a busy week for some, frequenting shows and parties for the eventful Spring Fashion Week. However, being immersed in our work Michelle and I don't attend any of these functions as we are not really part of that scene and are more entrenched in continuously developing and expanding our business.

One place we do frequent quite regularly is Brunetti's and they have the most delectable sweets I guarantee it can at times be trying to choose only one! When I hopped onto their website , which I admit I have never done before, I was surprised to find that they are actually located in various countries and are now opening another store in Melbourne's CBD.

What I do love about Brunetti's is their dedication and love for what they do. It becomes quite apparent that they are passionate about their business, if not obsessive, and these are qualities which I think and I hope will continue to drive Ava Madison. Because at the core of every success is a stubbornness to achieve regardless of the hurdles, economic climate and draw backs.

P.S They also make great wedding cakes :)

Zomp Store

Chadstone Shopping Centre was a great place to shop for shoes but of late I have struggled to find enough variety there. A few stores such as Midas, Enzo & Mollini have closed down leaving a shoe lover like myself in search of a store that will fill this void. I am thankful in times like these that we have stores such as ZOMP who stock such a wide variety of beautifully made evening shoes, boots, flats, thongs and pretty much anything your footsies desire. Melbourne is blessed with the Chapel St and Little Collins St stores and one can spend hours trying on shoes and wishing that credit cards were made without limits or interest. Ahhh what a life that would be :)

So now when I am looking for shoes, I simply head to Zomp as I am yet to find anywhere else that delivers on styles, quality and uniqueness.

Once again...I was so excited to receive these pics- as you many of you would know..we adore Real Wedding Pics! Especially when they feature our dresses. The gorgeous bride looking amazing in her Croce Colosimo creation sent through these pics from her beautiful Big Day. Tania opted for Lauren, Sophia and Alexandra all in Marble. As I am sure you will agree, the look is elegant, contemporary and extremely refreshing!

The beauty of these dresses is that the girls can wear them again and again, and unlike many of the gowns out there they are made from breathable fabrics such as silk georgette and silk satin so that even on a hot summer's day you can rest assured you will feel comfortable.

P.S- Something that I have noticed of late is the amount of girls opting to for one of our dresses in white or ivory for their wedding day. By adding a few sparkles they transform into the most amazing wedding dresses and after the big day if you shortened - yep you guessed it..you can wear them again!

I recall how difficult it was trying to narrow down the search for my wedding photographer. I wanted someone who could understand my vision -I say mine not our because my husband wanted whatever I wanted ;) an easy going personality and a professional eye for detail. When Michelle and I set up Ava Madison we wanted so many of those similar elements- someone that we were able to get along with, understood what we wanted, provided direction, was professional, fun and we could have a laugh with! We were so lucky to have been referred to Hybrid Imaging and the amazing work that they do. Bernard is an amazing photographer and sees opportunities in things that most of us would struggle to create. We have had such a ball putting together our photo shoots and hope to have some video footage of our next shoot that will be taking place later in the year.

My next post will be about our gorgeous model and the face of Ava Madison- Andrea C!

I am yet to meet with a client who doesn't comment on one of these 4 things: our showroom, our dresses, our model and our photography!!

We are so lucky in Australia to have a wide range of wedding services at our finger tips. One of the most helpful services that a busy bride can invest in is a wedding planner.Our favourite Brisbane wedding planner Imbue Weddings recently used Bella in a breathtaking photo shoot. We love how the dress is shown in a different light and perfectly accessorised, ready for any bride to wear. Bella has been paired with some gorgeous peep toe shoes and a devine shawl. Ms Polka, at Polka Dot Bride, features expert advice and gorgeous imagery from weddings, pre wedding and engagement shoots. As of last Friday, a new polka dot bride appeared on the world wide web and tomorrow will mark and unveiling of further features yet to be seen!

We were extremely fortunate to have an article on Expert advice featured in the Polka Dot Bride Wisdom section. I have included it below in hope it will assist you in preparing for your bridesmaid shopping adventures :)

-It’s important to have chosen your own gown and the venue prior to sourcing dresses for your maids as this will often guide you when making choices pertaining to style and colour.

-As many brides are time poor arrange to have all of your bridesmaids present when you have narrowed down your search for bridesmaid dresses

-Bring undergarments that are specific to the day when getting measured as this may alter the final measurements

-Don’t leave shoes too late! Winter stock hits the stores in February. If you are delayed in looking for shoes head out to the factory outlets to get summer stock

-Request the Ava Madison shoe database to assist you with your search for evening shoes

-There are no clear rules on what bridesmaids should and should not wear. You can opt for different styles in the same colour or vice versa. Make that decision on the day when you have seen a number of different styles on the girls. Of late, many Ava Madison brides are opting to mix and match styles or colours.

- Don’t leave it too late or you may miss out on getting the right dresses for the day

-Sometime too many choices can be confusing, choose a style/s first and then select colour

-Bring in a picture of your dress and a swatch of fabric if possible

-Enjoy the experience as the journey to the most perfect day is sometimes just as important

The colour range and fabrics that we have access to is too beautiful to describe. One of our latest love affairs is with blues, silvers, charcoals and black. Sophia, which is often featured in the Bridal Blush colours in tulle looks very sophisticated in the navy silk satin and silk georgette. This dress can also be made without the waistband to cater for pregnant bridesmaids or those wanting a little more room for comfort. Love it? A Picture Speaks A Thousand Words

It's true, a picture can speak volumes and we are definitely visual creatures. Technology and design cease to amaze me whether it be the latest in fashion or technological advances- we get hooked especially if it makes searching online easier.

We are loving QR codes- a visual representation that links you to websites. You don't have to type a word in. It can be used on billboards, in magazine advertisements and other print material. I am addicted! Here is an example of the Ava Madison QR code. All you have to do is take a picture of the image with your Google Nexus phone or iPhone (application required for iPhones) and it directs you straight to the website. Voila! No typing!
